Women Now 50% Of Online Gaming Market | BingoLingo.com

Online bingo operators have known for years that a majority of online bingo players are women and have focused most of their marketing efforts on this audience. A new survey commissioned by the Belle Rock online casino group not only confirmed perception but showed that female online casino players are a rapidly growing group in the United Kingdom. The survey was conducted by Hitwise an online consumer and behavior intelligence firm. The survey was conducted across all UK online casinos and was not limited to those owned by Belle Rock. The survey compared figures from 2007 with those of the present.

The survey?s results showed that during the period from 2007 to 2010 the number of female casino players increased fourfold. The number of women at online casinos is now almost equal to men. According to the survey 48.38% of all casino players were women and 51.62% were male. The report points out that many women feel intimidated by male players at land based casinos and are more comfortable playing at online bingo sites and casinos. Online bingo sites and casinos offer easy access and privacy which is important to female players. The online gambling industry has been cashing in on this trend and is creating female oriented bingo sites and casinos.

The survey pointed out that male and female players have different gambling preferences. The report cited the latest British Gambling Preference Survey figures. Men showed a marked preference for sports betting and poker while women showed a preference for online bingo and slots. The survey showed that women are more tech savvy than their male counterparts. In the United States 54% of all women own a smart phone as opposed to just 46% of men. Women are also more likely to own a smart phone application and Nintendo Wii. Melissa Lavigne-Delville, of Women at NBCU says that 75% of women are online and have a profound influence over the evolution of the internet and other technologies.

According to the survey online casinos that market exclusively to men are missing out on 50% of the online gaming market. Several online gaming operators have already realized this and are targeting their marketing efforts at female and casual players. Online bingo is a big business in the UK and is the fastest growing sector of the online gaming industry. Today online bingo marketers regularly run female oriented television ads and sponsor shows popular with women. Any online gaming operator that dismisses the influence of women will surely lose big bucks in the future.
